Fukuoka

A smooth arrival to the Japanese archipelago

Information about Fukuoka

Fukuoka is the largest city on the island of Kyushu and is full of activities and sites that are well worth a visit.

Fukuoka is the gateway to Japan and offers a smooth arrival to the Japanese archipelago. There are two typical dishes not to be missed in Fukuoka: Motsunabe and Mizutaki. Motsunabe is particularly popular in winter. It is a stew with rich ingredients such as tripe (beef or pork) or other offal mixed with cabbage, garlic, chives and red pepper. Mizutaki, on the other hand, is a chicken stew topped with seasonal vegetables mixed with a fresh citrus-based sauce called Ponzu.

Interesting facts about Fukuoka

Try the local specialties of life in the Yatai stall alley! These are fast food stalls where you can easily find tempura (fried fish or vegetable fritters), yakitori (chicken skewers) and other Japanese dishes to try.

We recommend a visit to Nokonoshima, also known as Flower Island! You can reach the island in a few minutes by ferry from the port of Fukuoka and you can walk through fields of ever-changing flowers all year round.

A little further away from Fukuoka, but still within easy reach, you will find Ainoshima, the cat island! If you miss your cat on the trip, hop on the ferry and play with the many cats that roam around the island all day.
